If you'd like to include
photos as part of your video, digital story, screencast, photo slide show,
online magazine or other work, one option is to check out the scores of stock
photo sites, which offer a large assortment of professional-grade royalty-free
photos that can be licensed for a modest fee.
Another option — one
that we prefer — is to check out a range of sites that offer use of photos
(often for noncommercial purposes) for free. Here are some choices:
Flickr
Flickr offers more than 20 million photos under
a Creative Commons license. Users
can browse by different license types: commercial or non-commercial use,
derivative uses allowed or not, etc.
Stock.Xchng
Stock.Xchng offers a selection of more than
200,000 quality stock photos by more than 15,000 photographers.
iStockphoto
IStockPhoto isn’t free, but
it’s inexpensive, at $1 to $5 per photo, and the quality is generally higher
than at most of the free sites.
Be sure to read each site’s terms of service before snagging a photo and incorporating it into your own work.
