Description: ONE Minute of Light for Democratic Media.ONE Minute of Light for Dirk Koning. To honor Media Democracy Week, 2005 (March 20-26) and as a tribute to the life and work of Dirk Koning the Alliance for Community Media has asked that every Public, Educational and Government Access channel cablecast one minute of light at exactly the same time all across the United States of America. The cablecast can be one minute of blue, white, orange, black, red-whatever works. It can be simple and unannounced. It can have character generation. It can be silent or with music. Every channel should do it in its own way, but all at the same time: 9pm EST - 8pm CST - 7pm MST - 6pm PST - 5pm (ANCHORAGE) - 4pm HSTThis piece was created to be aired on the public and government channels at LTC, a community media and technology center in Lowell, Massachusettes. LTC, along with many centers around the world, was personally and directly shaped by Dirk Koning's vision for Community Media. One strength of Community Media is the indpendence of individual centers, each having complete control over how they work with and within their local community. This is reflected in every centers ability to choose what to air during this one minute of light.Another strength is the ability for centers to act as a larger network, working together to protect democratic media and achieve regional and national goals. This is reflected in the call for every center to partipate together at the same time.A third strength is our ability to collaborate and share, both knowledge and content. We wish to share this piece, a tribute to a man who embodied the vision and spirt of Community Media, with all of our current and future collaborative partners, to be freely aired on their own stations. As a full-frame, standard, QuickTime Compatible MPEG-4, this file can be exported to tape, burned to DVD, or imported into a compatible NLE.
