Ourmedia's mission

Learn. Create. Share. Get noticed. Ourmedia is a global community and learning center where you can gain visibility for your digital creativity.

How does Ourmedia differ from YouTube and the 360 flavors of video hosting sites today (besides the fact that we predate all of them)? Here are six key factors that set us apart:

1) We're here to support video producers and the grassroots media community.

We’re not here to show off funny videos to audiences and advertisers. We’re here to serve the needs of media producers and creative individuals, by helping them not just watch video but use and participate in media. Ourmedia is for users, not just consumers.

2) We’re about learning.

Ourmedia is a gathering place for people to learn how to create media through our Learning Center and a community that connects newcomers with experienced media makers. (Educators, here's how to get involved.)

3) We're about creativity and quality media.

We don't want to be another site where people just post frothy, dumb videos. We’re after something deeper: telling meaningful stories. We want to encourage and nurture high-value grassroots media.

4) We’re a hub for sharing.

We’re about open media. Open standards. Open source. An open registry. No DRM. We want to serve as glue to help bring together far-flung open media sites and repositories. We’re building open source tools that can be shared across other sites. (Ourmedia releases all its code back to the Drupal community.) Want to host your videos elsewhere and discuss them here? Cool. Ourmedia is a connector and not just another walled-garden destination site.

5) We support Remix Culture.

We’re working with Creative Commons, Outhink and several open media projects and repositories to create a space for people to mash up and remix video, audio, music and images. We are providing collaborative tools for the next wave of online creativity: collaboration, in which artists borrow from each other and the culture at large to create new works.

6) We support podcasts and music, not just video.

As media convergence deepens, users will look for solutions that tie together video, audio, games, images and text. Ourmedia is a life-long hosting solution that believes in all of your work.
